Behind the scenes is a beautiful thing where silly-ness and ‘bloppers’ if you will, take place. This week we want you to meet one of our FAVORITE models that we work with on the REG. Her name is Ashika. This New Zealand native is a gorgeous girl with olive/hazel skin tone and long legs(obvs). One of the most desirable things about New York City is being surrounded by incredible fashion. We aren’t talkin’ about any fashion shows or the wide array of stores in the city, we are speaking ‘street style’ that exists in this amazing city. A new trend that has overcome the fashion community is a hair movement. From up- do’s to stick-straight flat ironing and harsh dyes a new idea has evolved that can add a hint of color or a bold statement color, and it can wash right out: hair chalking.
Who knew, those boxes of sidewalk chalk we used when we were youngins’ would come in handy when we become fashionistas! We played with the idea of chalking hair in one of our lifestyle photo shoots where we were highlighting a new winter trend: winter pastels.
After all the gloomy colors that came our way, we finally saw a playful burst of colors –soft pinks, purples and blues.
We want to share a step-by-step method on how to chalk your own hair. This is how we used it in our latest shoot with our model, Claire.
Step 1: Wet piece of hair. Note- if you are a blonde we do not suggest wetting hair as it will be harder to get the color out. Use dish soap if regular shampoo is not working for removal.
Step 2: Prepare color chalk. Feel free to mix colors to get the exact shade you are going for.
Step 3: Rub chalk over pieces of hair. Work with about 1 inch of hair at a time. This technique looks better when the color is placed sporadically and only a few inches from tip.
Step 4: Allow hair to dry
Step 5: Curle Hair with Iron
Step 6: Done and Done.
